  • An apostille is a certificate from a governing agency that goes on top of a document in order for it to be used and accepted internationally.

It’s needed to verify the document you are providing is authentic, original, and legal. Without one, the country you are dealing with may not accept your document(s). This could cause a delay in using the document(s) in the respective country.

  • An Embassy or Consular Legalization is the verification of a document that it does not come under an Apostille Country, which would mean a State Apostille alone wouldn’t be accepted.

Please see the lists of Apostille/Authentication countries above. This process involves the document(s) being submitted to the respective embassy or consulate for secondary approval for use internationally.

  • A federal authentication is a certificate that confirms that a document is authentic and has been issued by a federal agency or office. This document has to be processed by the Department of State not a local Secretary of State.

  • A Certified Translation is when a document has to be authenticated by a federal agency. This is needed in order for the Department of State to be provided with an accurate and reliable translation of the original document that can be understood. Requirements for translation can vary depending on the country so it is best to check with the appropriate authorities.
